从开始教书到现在已近七年了，期间我一直从事着初中英语教学。在这短短的几年中我经历了三种版本（湘教版、仁爱版、人教版），三种版本中other、 another、  the other、  others 、 the others的区别及用法都是要求学生掌握的主要的语法知识，并且几乎是历年中考的必考部分，但是大部分学生对它们的用法总是似懂非懂，现我将其进行细解。
一、各自的含义及用法
〈一〉another
1、 含义：表示“另一个”（是泛指中的‘另一个’）“又一个”
eg： a  now she was in another difficulty. 现在他碰到了另一个困难（另一个）
2、用法：
⑴another 可以单独使用也可以和名词使用。
eg： it is just such another.这真是无独有偶。
⑵后面跟名词，此名词一般为单数，因为指另一个。
eg：please give me another book.请给我另一本书。
3、 词性：

eg：he`s writing another novel.他在写另一本小说。
⑵代词（指代名词单数）
eg：i don`t like this one ，please show me another.我不喜欢这个，请给我另一个。

1、含义
特指两者当中的另一个。
你的食谱又多了一道美食英语eg： shut the other dye， please.
请把另一只眼睛也闭上。
2、用法
⑴可以单独使用。
eg： i have two sisters， one is a teather ，the other is a student.
我有两个，一个是老师另一个是学生。
⑵后面跟名词使用。
a：跟单数（通常与one连用）
eg： there are two books on the desk，one is kangkang`s， the otherbook is yours.
桌子上有两本书，一本是康康的另一本是你的。
b： 跟名词复数。
the other加名词复数时等于 the others.

2、词性
⑴作为代词
eg： i have two pens ，one is black ，the other is red。
我有两支钢笔，一直是黑的，另一支是红的。
⑵作为形容词
eg：where have the other students gone？
其他的学生都到哪里去了？
〈三〉other

⑴别的其他的。
eg： some students like english and other students like physics.
一些学生喜欢英语，另一些喜欢物理。
⑵另一个（两个中的），其实这里指的就是我们前面提到的 the other （注：通常与“one ”连用）
eg： i have two children ，one is s daughter， the other is a son.
我有两个小孩，一个是女儿另一个是儿子。
⑶其余的，剩下的。
eg： the other water is not enough to drink.
剩下的水不足够喝了。
2、 用法
⑴other 不能单独使用，其后要跟名词（接不可数名词或名词复数=others）。
eg： i have two other information to give you （接不可数名词）
我有其他消息给你们。
⑵其他的用法。
a： “数字+other” 的用法，其基本含义是“又一、再”之一。
eg： he has bought two other english dictionaries.他又买了两本英语词典。

b： any other 用法，是指同一范围内除了某人或某物以外的其他人或事物，any other 后跟单数名词也可以说 any of the other+复数名词
eg： tom runs faster than any other students（或any of the other students）in his class.汤姆比他班上的任何人都跑的快。

用直观的方法可以知道another 、the other、others 、 the others，它们与other是有联系的，“another”是an+other， “the other”是在“other”的前面加定冠词“the”“others”是other+s，而“the others”就是在“others”的前面加定冠词“the”。这些不定代词不仅在形式上有区别而且在含义上、单复数和用法上有区别。其区别如下：
〈一〉单复数之别：
1、指单数时用“another”和“the other”。
eg：give me another（one）。
